Haircut...

Daniel and I had a special date yesterday afternoon to get his haircut at my salon. They've really cut back on their hours that they offer for kids' cuts so we had to go in before 5pm. But it was worth it to get a cut with real scissors (vs. shears). Daniel got to watch some Thomas the Train and sat perfectly still for the 15 minutes it took to get it cut. He's still my handsome boy, just now with a better looking (less shaggy) cut. And in honor of the US v Germany World Cup game today, his "before" picture is from Monday when he wore his jersey to school.

BEFORE
SO good!

SO handsome!

Curls!

We call these Daniel's "roller curls" because it looks like he slept in curlers overnight.  I love that he has my hair! He's headed to a professional to cut his hair on Wednesday since it's getting a little too shaggy but he's moved beyond the barber and the clippers. I'll miss these sweet curls but it will be nice to have him look a little less shaggy puppy.

The best sound

David SORT of took a few unassisted side steps today. Towards the drums. Of course, no photo evidence. David's teeth are feeling a lot better and his hunger strike is over. His top teeth are getting a work out. Of course, no photo evidence. BUT I did get some video of him laughing. Oh what a wonderful sound. Enjoy.

ONE!

My baby is no longer a baby any more. His weekly update from Baby Center even changed from "Your baby is XX weeks old" to "Your toddler is..." This year seems to have flown by. And while there are still so many baby aspects about Baby David (he still only has one tooth, he's not walking yet) he is starting to show more signs of turning into a toddler...like shaking his head no and having a meltdown when he doesn't get what he wants. He feels very long to me, but he's been on some weird hunger strike where he's barely eating food and pretty much just wants a bottle. I'm not looking forward to hearing what the pediatrician has to say about that but I forgot to schedule David's one year appointment so we have another few weeks to find out. And since I just re-read Daniel's one year birthday blog and saw so many similarities to David's day I thought I'd write a little bit from his perspective.

I woke up this morning at 5am because my paci fell out of my mouth and I was groggy and confused and WAAAHHHH where's mommy. She came into my room and must have still been sleep because I got exactly what I wanted, an hour long snuggle with her until her alarm went off at 6am. I slept a bit more until I heard my fur brother in the room and decided to check him out. Mommy got back upstairs before I had a chance to dive off of the bed and we went for a run. She said something about needing to get back into shape pushing the stroller. It was kind of a warm day, but it was fun even though the sun was sometimes in my eyes. Mommy and big brother took me to school but I don't remember it because I decided to take a nap on the way there. The ladies at Bluebird sang happy birthday to me and sent me home with bubbles! I drank all of my bottles and ate a little bit of the real food: bagels and pasta. I ate all of my apple sauce and yogurt (according to my activity report). Daddy got me from school and we watched the United States play in the World Cup while we ate dinner. I wasn't too much of a fun of my puffs and bread and fussed until daddy took me out of my high chair. Mommy, daddy and big brother sang a song to me and tried to give my another cupcake but I didn't like it. YUCK! Mommy even tried to put some frosting on my paci. Gag! Mommy says she doesn't know how we're related. My teeth have been REALLY hurting since they're all coming in and eating doesn't feel too great. Daddy gave me a bath and a bottle but I passed out before mommy had a chance to read the birthday book "On the Night You were born" guess I'll get it tomorrow night!

Fathers

The boys are so lucky to have this man as their father and I am so lucky to have him as my partner in this parenting adventure.  Not always easy but I am thankful to have him by my side.

Sandwich

It's been a week of surviving the sandwich generation, parents with health issues, babies falling out of beds, toddlers in meltdown because they wore the "wrong shirt" to school and work just piling up because no one else wants to do it. I often feel too young to have to deal with all of this, but on the flip side, appreciate that I'm close enough that I can. Because of mom's surgery this week we celebrated baby David's birthday a little early. He seems to be coming out of a hungry strike now and will eat things again, but when we offered him his first cupcake, this....happened. How is he my child.

Daniel knew better and devoured three cupcakes...though he didn't want the photo evidence.

Maybe he'll do better on his actual birthday.

Little fish

The boys are taking swim lessons, Daniel was in Pee Wee Paddlers I, the first class without mommy or daddy with him, and David is in Baby and Me class. Both classes are taught by a very patient Mr. Ricky. Daniel is doing a fantastic job jumping into the shallow end and floating on his back (must be all of that practice being "bathtized") and David kicks like a little frog and doesn't mind the cool water one bit. So thankful that the boys are getting into the water early on in life. I can't wait for them to be swimming laps with me one day!

And on to Pee Wee Paddlers II!!
