Poopy in the potty

Daniel went poopy in the potty on Thursday night. We decided against taking photo evidence. But it was after we had put him down for the night and he told us "have to go poopy". He has done that before, usually as a stalling tactic. But daddy took him and sure enough...poopy in the potty! We had a family dance in the bathroom. Daniel got FOUR "treats" m&m's for doing it. He was so proud. "I do it all by myself!" He's done a little poopy since then and a BIG pee pee today. Except today, he was still in "time out" for whacking mommy's hand with his toy hammer and refusing the say "sorry." But he did pee pee. And eventually...after a long standoff with daddy, said sorry.

4 months!

David is a big four months and he has done a lot of maturing this month....and he's had a lot of adventures. Here are some of the highlights:

  1. He is a VERY happy baby. He loves loves loves to smile and "talk" to you. Just as long as you're (I'm) there with him, he's happy.
  2. He loves holding hands. His Grandma Mary had experience with that this month when we flew out to California for a work trip. I had him set up in an little inflatable changing bed in between us in the king bed and he held on to one of us all night, just to know we were there.
  3. He can sleep through the night. (!!!) Though he doesn't always choose to do it. He can and for longer than 8 hour stretches. It's glorious.
  4. He's a roller. After sleeping through the night for nearly two weeks, he started rolling over from back to front and getting stuck. And getting mad. And waking up. Daddy learned to "hold his hand" to hold him down while he was in the bassinet next to the bed. But now he's becoming a pro at it on the floor and anywhere he can. He loves being on his belly and seeing the world from that new perspective. I think daycare is doing a great job making sure he gets his exercises in.
  5. He loves to "stand". If you're holding him on his sides, he loves to stand up straight, pushing his feet into your legs and just look around at the world.
  6. He's starting to notice...and enjoy his big brother. Thankfully big brother is still in love with him and gives him LOTS of kisses.
  7. He's a great eater. Even with sleeping through he night, he's falling into a somewhat predictable schedule (thanks to daycare) and that makes for travelling and weekends, that much easier to plan.
  8. He's got a great digestive track...very efficient. I think we had more blowout diapers this month than the first three months combined.
  9. He's HUGE. We'll get the official stats today at his 4 month check up, but he was in his 6 month clothes (and filling them out) by 3 1/2 months. I started pulling out the 9 month clothes this weekend to be ready. Hopefully he fits in Daniel's old 6 month Christmas outfits! Maybe he's eating his way into a non-hand-me-down wardrobe.
I'm getting settled into being a working mother of two and figuring the whole pumping, travelling, and exercising thing. Very thankful to have such a sweet boy.

He was all smiles until the flash went off

On the move...

SO much more interesting from this angle.

"World" Traveller

Baby David has been on FIVE different planes in the last few weeks. The first three we're tiny puddle jumpers where you had to walk out on to the tarmac and up the stairs of the plane to board. Not that unusual, but while wearing a baby, pushing a car seat in a stroller and carrying a backpack and purse/diaper bag, I felt like a bit of a super mom. This was a trip to go see a dear friend and meet her new fiance. Not something I'd do for most people.  The second trip was cross country to my work event in San Francisco. MUCH bigger planes, but each leg was 5+hours each way. Thankfully I had a co-worker friend on my same flight who helped my lug my heavy suitcase off of the carousel and hold David while I inhaled a lunch on the plane. And a grandma who came up to stay with us in the hotel to watch him while I worked. Overall, we survived. Our next trip isn't scheduled until February when Grandma gets married, but by that point he'll be a crawler (AND we'll have big brother) so it'll be a whole different ball game.

My airplane outfit and best "cute" face to charm fellow passengers.

Passed out in the carrier before take-off

Rolling around to get the wiggles out before we get on the plane!

Up early to take my first taxi ride to the airport

Only Auntie Kirsten could get me on tiny planes.

Girlfriends

We had a busy weekend day-camping and on an impromptu play date, but Daniel had lots of fun playing with his girlfriends, Melina, Diane, Claire and Carys...and his Aunties Karen and Jen. With so many positive (and strong) women in his life he will definitely be a man who knows how to respect the ladies when he's grown.

Pre-School

I've had the pictures uploaded but haven't had a chance to write about it yet. Daniel's first day at Blue Bird Academy went as well as could be expected, but since that was nearly a month ago now, it seems so long ago. He was a little timid at first but he is always happy to help take David to his classroom (downstairs) and then climb the big stairs up to his classroom. And unlike Miss Zulee's he was now the youngest in his room. C'mon kids, teach this boy how to use the potty!

For the first few days we wanted him to have a few comfort items like his "backpack" and his "bin" to help with the transition. But we've gradualy had to keep those home since he would run over to his cubby throughout the day to keep them with him. First it was the bin. Bin HAD to go. Then it was the giraffe in his backpack. Then it was a hot day when he refused to take off his hoody sweatshirt. Now it's a "pony", one of my hairbands. So as hard as it was for Daniel to not have those items with him it is equally hard for this mommy to leave a crying, not usually clingy child begging to "go back to the car!".

His teachers are great though. Miss Cesci is the lead in the morning and will take him from me straight to the other kids who are playing (he's usually whining a bit) and then Miss Joanna in the afternoon gives us the report of "he slept well, ate everything...followed me around to help me with everything". That's right, Daniel is already the teacher's pet! While he's still clingy and a bit whiney when I leave him, he always seems happy when we get him and will turn to the class as he leaves to let out a big "BYE!!!" And then on the weekends we hear him singing songs from school and saying the names of his classmates...I think that there's a Sarah who might be a little girlfriend. Whatever makes the transition easier, I guess!

I think school is great, what's your problem big brother?
