Double dose of cuteness

A travelling mommy means less frequent entries, but this level of cuteness from the weekend should count for at least two or three missed entries.

Easter festivities

We have so much to be thankful for on Easter Sunday, but this Easter we are most thankful for Grandma Corrinne and that she is home and on the mend. She bravely hosted lunch and Easter Egg coloring and thankfully we didn't leave the place too much of a mess.

Ten Months

A few days behind (again), thankfully I have the reminders on my phone to make sure I get the picture on the actual day. But this Wednesday David was officially 10 months. I've been saying he's 10 months for the last few weeks so that's why I say "officially". And just as the stairs clicked in his mind last week, so did mobility as a whole. Holy cow this kid is on the move. His personality is really starting to come through too. Fiesty little guy. Here's his top ten for ten months.

  1. Still no teeth. The bottom ones are there under his gums but don't even feel them trying to cut through. And he's not drooling so I don't think they're coming any time soon.
  2. He's a fast crawler, but still in the swiffer mode. He's rocking up on to hands and knees, but I think he might skip that stage
  3. He has stood for a quick second without holding on to anything. He's very proficient and pulling up, but he's justs starting to learn that he can let go and grab on to the thing next to it. He's even getting better at sitting back down afterwards.
  4. He's fiesty. Take something away that he wants and hold on to your hat. I swear he even furrows his brow and glares at you.
  5. He's eyeballing whatever we're eating and wants a taste. He ate nearly all of a small soft-taco shell during dinner with the girls. But still gumming it.
  6. The boy is a sweater...just like his daddy. If he falls asleep on daddy the side of his face that is on daddy will be completely drenched.
  7. His big blue eyes are incredibly charming. It's no wonder people say he looks like my brother. It's his tio's best feature too and he already knows how to work it to get out of trouble.
  8. He's a blondie. The first few months of his life I thought he'd be dark and with light eyes, but as sun has come out so has his blonde hair. Maybe he'll be dark later in life, but for now he's going to be a toe-head like his brother
  9. He's had his first dairy (yogurt) and all seems well. YEAH! The cold yogurt is still a little weird to him, but he's happy to eat it. Still likes his bottle warm.
  10. And last, but certainly not least, thank you Jesus, he's sleeping through the night. There may be a moment of fussing around 2-3am, but he settles right back down. It definitely helped when he got over a case of hand-foot-mouth + ear infection. But it is glorious. I feel like a whole new person.

Hello, I am ten months old and incredibly charming...

Stairmaster

It's like something clicked in David's little head in the last few days. Pulling up to standing and speed-crawling is his favorite new thing. We held a yard sale today and had him outside on a blanket, we would look away for a minute and he'd crawled 5 feet away and into the bed of daffodils or he'd crawl off and over a pile of bags to get into the drainage rock bed between the two houses. He's an off-roading baby. As if that wasn't enough to keep us on our toes, I left him on the main level (door to the basement closed since that's REALLY interesting) and I look down and he's on the bottom landing, one stair up. He was looking at me at the top of the stairs with the proudest (toothless) grin saying "woo hoo mommy, increased mobility is AWESOME!!!" And like Daniel he went straight for the stairs, never having ventured towards them before but he went up the whole flight. This time with my protective hand behind his bottom and daddy snapping the picture. We asked Daniel if he wanted to see what his brother had done and by the time he finally agreed David was up and crawled right into the bathroom (the base of the toilet is very interesting too). And after that, the gates were re-installed at the bottom of the stairs and the top of the deck stairs within 15 minutes. Holy cow, here we go!!

Camping

We're not ready for full overnight camping, but this is the second day trip we've made to the the western part of Virginia to meet up with some of my high school friends for a day in the woods. After a bit of a harrowing off-roading experience (that we probably won't repeat) we had lunch and the afternoon just hanging out with out friends. David loved rolling around and riding in the backpack on a little hike. Daniel loved playing with the Zimet girls and "camping pee pee" (on a tree). He even "helped" the men build a shed. He'll be so excited for when we do sleep over and are able to make s'mores. Now we just need baby David to sleep through the night so he doesn't wake everyone up from our tent. Until then...

THIS is why you have two kids

Daniel has re-discovered his Bibles from his baby dedication and likes to "read"  them in bed. I head him clunking around in his room this morning and went up to find him reading to baby David. So much for trying to quarantine David (first case of hand foot and mouth) from his brother. But SO very cute.
